Story 076: The Ark in Space

Original air dates January and February 1975. Off go the travellers.

Harry’s first trip, and he’s a little overwhelmed.

I’ve already got distracted and lost track of what’s going on. Sarah’s been kidnapped. She is being processed “beyond life” and that she will be taking everyone’s future with them. Sounds bad.

The Doctor and Harry are playing with a desk to move past the autogun that the doctor has accidentally enabled. They eventually get the switch, but Sarah is being “processed”.

Harry and the Doctor find the place Sarah was, and it’s a cryogenic repository of everything they felt worth storing. They’re looking for where Man has been kept. Sarah likely among them.

There are space slugs in the vents.

They found Sarah Jane, and can’t wake her for a while. As Harry is looking through closets for a widget, a giant bug falls on him. Credits roll!

They find someone waking up, and help them. They help maybe revive Sarah, and give some backstory. The Doctor talks to them.

They want the “contaminents” to leaves, and, I think they probably should, as requested.

The Doctor has found things growing in the solar stack and was about to shut it off tokill them, but one of the revived men shoots him. Noah, the man who shot the Doctor, is going to go to the solar stacks. Noah is met by escaping slimy things, and knocked cold.

Now Noah is something horrible and must be stopped. He’s trying to stop the revivivication program. Noah shoots Libre, and reveals his green slimy hand. It would be scarier if it were not made of green bubble wrap. Credits roll.

They get a terrible pep talk from a recording. The commander tries to give control to the doctor, but is losing his fight with the absorbing aliens. Noah fights with himself. The doctor falters, while the Doctor presses her to take action.

They hook the brain of the dead bug to the scanner and find out a weakness – electricity. They try and beam themselves to the control center, and power goes out, so Doctor goes to fix it. Will be pupal bugs everywhere, icky.

Yep, and a mostly transformed Noah, also icky. Then credits, boo.

Transformed Noah tells them about the Plan for the future, involving eating all the humans for their memories.

Plan is to drag a cable through the conduits, connecting the power from that ship to the sleeping equipment to zap the bugs if they eat someone. Sarah Jane is small enough to run the conduit, while the Doctor wires everything up.

The plan seems to work, except for the need for O2, which the bugs will shut down unless the humans leave. The bugs spacewalk to the rescue ship, which they set to auto-launch. The rescue ship will blast free when the last leg is released. It’ll kill the tech who does it, and the Doctor is prevented from helping.

The bugs are all on the shuttle when it launches and blows up. They can safely revive mankind. The Doctor and crew beam down to Earth to fix the matter transport reciever there. Credits roll.
