Original air dates February and March of 1974. A Terry Nation serial for real Dalek goodness.
They don’t make it to sunny Florana, but a quarry full of smoke. The TARDIS power sources are all drained. Sarah goes in to the TARDIS to put on something appropriate, and the Doctor looks around, until he’s abducted by lumps.
Sarah looks for him. She finds his oil lamp, bloody.
She runs back to the TARDIS, which has a lump in it. She closes the doors – manually – and is accosted by the lump, which she hits until it falls down.
Lumps patrol the quarry. They’re taking the Doctor somewhere when he breaks free. Wandering about, Sarah finds a city with a glowing beacon.
The Doctor finds three men who have a base. They’ve got a geologist with them. They warn the Doctor away from the ancient city, and mention that the aliens kill anyone who goes near it.
Sarah, is, of course, near it, and captured.
The Earth sends a relief ship to rescue the stranded crew and they rush off to meet it. It’s full of Daleks though!
The Daleks try and exterminate everybody and it doesn’t work as the credits roll.
The Doctor natters with the Daleks. The Daleks don’t want to work togehter, what with being the master race and all.
Everybody need a chemical for various reasons, that’s supposed to be common here.
The natives are busy sacrificing Sarah.
They’re surrounded by lumps on all sides, who have arrows and beat Daleks to death.
The sacrifice continues. It’s creepy.
The others are brought past where Sara is being sacrificed, the Doctor clues in, and attacks. Now they’re all on the chopping block.
The Daleks back at their ship re-arm themselves with “primitive” weapons – guns.
Sacrifices are back on, and creepy still with the singing and echoes and smoke and fire.
Daleks invade, kill a bunch of natives. Doctor and Sarah are tossed into a tunnel, to die. Daleks follow them to kill them if the creatures don’t. I predict a pincer between Daleks and monsters and the creidts. Oh wait! First Sarah and the Doctor split up. Very good, they can do more damage that way. Sarah finds a native, the Doctor an eyestalk that hisses at him, and there’s the pesky credits. Daleks are missing this boat.
The native appears to be friendly and helpful. Daleks finally show up and split up. One follows the Doctor to death, the other another tunnel.
The Dalek and the tentacle fight. Tentacle wins. Doctor escapes back to Sarah and natives. They flee the other Dalek.
Outside, the natives are mining the stuff everyone but them wants. It’s too slow for the Daleks so they go to shake some more workers free from the natives. With guns.
The Daleks go to destroy the beacon on the city, calculating that it will restore electrical power.
A tentacle attacks the Daleks at the diggings, wins.
Doctor reaches the city. Daleks head to the city. Both planning on interrupting the beacon that’s drawing power.
Doctor and friendly native go into the city, solving logic problems as they go. Daleks follow them. They reach a puzzle in the center of a maze and stop for the credits to roll.
The Doctor solves the puzzles with grace and aplomb. The Daleks brute force them.
Sarah goes to warn the others they need to be ready to flee as soon as power comes back on. Expect the Daleks to cheat and attack ASAP. Get your ship loaded and be ready to blast off. They come up with a plan to do so.
Doctor and alien keep getting tested. They reach the center, where they find the remains of a watcher and the core of the city, which the Doctor sets about destroying. He gives it a headache.
The humans are forced to load the mineral onto the Dalek ship. This will make piloting their own ship difficult.
The Daleks plan on destroying the planet to keep anyone else from getting the chemical.
Galloway bombs the Dalek ship from inside.
The city melts. Credits roll.
