Story 067: Frontier in Space

Original air dates February through March 1973. Nothing to do with Elite Dangerous, despite that also being Frontier in Space. This is the last serial featuring Robert Delgado as The Master, due to his untimely death in mid-1973.

Spaceship in space! With science fictiony synthesizer music. Seat belts for hyperspace! Nearly hits the TARDIS, drops from hyperspace. TARDIS vanishes before collision, appearing on the ship itself. They are, as usual, lost. Jo and the Doctor go to try and find the crew to get the exact date.

A freighter appears, Draconians, they plan to attack the cargo ship. The cargo ship has time to get of an emergency call. The Doctor sees it as preparation for a linkup. So does the cargo ship.

The Doctor and Jo are broght to the bridge, where the crew sees them as Draconians. They are placed in the hold.

Frontier in space established by treaty, and both sides say they’re not the ones breaking it.

Jo sees the Draconians as Ogrons. No way to tell.

By the time Earth arrives to help, there will be no sign of them.

The Ogrons stole the cargo and the TARDIS. The Ogrons are mercenaries, could be working for anyone. Jo and the Doctor go to find the crew, who are stunned. They’ve repaired the airlock door or the ship would have vented to space when they undocked.

The Doctor goes to the Bridge and replies to the Battle Cruiser. The crew doesn’t remember how they came on board, so they must be stowaways. Nobody is ever happy to see them. Credts roll as guns are stuck in Jo and the Doctor’s faces.

Earth Battlecruiser unlocks and leaves. TARDIS still missing. Guard on the door. They plan what to do.

There is general unrest on Earth regarding the Draconian situation.

Doctor and Jo are hauled around to meet the Draconian ambassador. Who knows nothing of them, of course.

The Doctor tries to tell them there’s a third party trying to start a war. The plan on mind-probing them good and hard.

First, the Preisdent and Draconic Ambassador want to speak to them. The Draconic embassy steals the prisoners. They get the Doctor, and not Jo.

The Draconians think the Doctor is lying and he’s working for the Earthmen, and are just as unwilling to listen as the Earthmen are. The Doctor escapes the Draconians and is recaptured by the Earthmen.

The mind-altering sound happens and Ogrons storm the parking garage, er, security base. The humans see Draconians, the Draconians see humans. Very effective. The Ogrons take Doctor and Jo as the credits roll.

They question the Doctor under the Mind Probe. He tells them the truth until it explodes.

The Doctor is sent to the Moon Penal Colony forever, without a word to Jo.

Wow, the Master showed up as the commissioner of a colony. He wants Jo and The Doctor. They are handed over to The Master.

Jo goes with the Master. The Master goes to collect the Doctor from the Moon.

The Doctor escapes. Or tries to, it doesn’t work, as credits roll. The Master frees him just in time.

The Master collects both Jo and the Doctor. Takes them to a distant planet while they escape.

Jo and the Doctor try and escape, while the Master is also caught by the Draconians. The master signals for help, probably – yes! – from the Ogrons. Credits roll.

Spaceship fights. Missiles and boarding. Jo is captured by Ogrons. Doctor shoots blasters at them.! Earth shows up, Master runs away.

Oh look! A quarry!

The Master puts the whammy on Jo, or tries. She resists! He uses her as bait, using the Fear Sound on her. Credits roll before we can see how it affects her. She resists it too!

More unrest on Earth, the locals pushing for war, nobodoy believeing the Doctor et al.

The Doctor goes to the Ogrons world. Scout ship attacked by Draconions. They have to fix their ship with a spacewalk. Very high tech. Off the Doctor goes to do the work. You can see the wires.

I’m skipping a lot of pretty cool spacewalk stuff, and alarms and excursions and daring escapes, etc.

Jo also escapes, being Jo. She swipes the Master’s fear sound box. She gets on the raido calls for help, with coordinates for the Ogrons. The ship is on fire, and needs repair. Jo’s cry for help is a lure for the Doctor, and the Master’s plan has worked, mwa ha ha.

Back in the quarry – landed on the planet – they search for Jo’s signal. The Ogrons go to intercept them, but run away when a local monster appears.

The Master shows up over the ridgeline with the Daleks. A three-Dalek army.

Jo and the Doctor escape to the TARDIS, using the fear-machine to scare the Ogrons and the Master away.

The Doctor sends a message to the Time Lords as the credits roll, ending the serial!
