Story 037: Tomb of the Cybermen

Original air dates September 1967. Victoria and Jaimie accompany the Doctor into the TARDIS. He’s about 450 years old right now, and the set her up with the wardrobe.

They find an expidition exploring for the tomb of the cybermen. The doors kill one man, and another is killed testing random controls they find. The archeologists begin to worry about danger and be suspicious they should leave. They found a “fossil” which the Doctor calls a “cybermat”, and urges Victoria to leave it alone. She puts it in her bag.

The archaeologists plan to leave, but the rocket has been damaged. It’ll be 72 hours to fix it and nobody can help except the crew. The archaeologists will have to wait in the cyberman’s building. They’ll explore the rest of the building.

They find frozen Cybermen, which they ineivtably release. That also awakens the cybermat, which scurries off.

One of the members of the team has plans to use the Cybermen to gain power for the Logicians union or somesuch. The Doctor doubts.

The Doctor asks the Cybermen why they froze themselves. It was a test to find smart humans. They’re going to make them into Cybermen to take over the Earth and bring more warm bodies for conversion.

The ship’s captain distracts the Cybermen with smoke bombs and they all flee. Most of them get away; the big bruiser is taken. The cybermats are set on him.

The conspirators are locked in a room, where they find a Cyberman’s gun, which they plan to use to take over completly. It’s a stupid plan.

It gets confusing, but there’s a great deal of conflict, with backstabbing and people changing sides. In the end the Doctor talks himself into a worse problem, until the Cybermen attack and render it all moot.

Cybermen are full of shaving cream, apparently. Ick.
