Story 022: The Massacre

Original air dates February 1966. France, vaguely mideval times, the Doctor and Steven arrive in the middle of the 16th century.

First notable mention of the TARDIS’ wardrobe. It’s in opposition to the Doctor stealing clothes wherever he goes, I guess.

A very prickly man who’s insisting on rubbing the Catholics the wrong way, but he leaves.

French court intrigue and a Doctor-double leads to a comedy of errors.

The one who impresses me least here is the King; he’s a short-tempered self-centered oaf.

Steven’s in a bad place, believing the Doctor is dead, and he’s stuck in old France.

Luckily he pops up again, and he knows history better than Steven and realizes the date and that they’d better scoot. My history isn’t good enough to remember why.

Nobody messed with the TARDIS this time, at least.

Steven’s peeved at the Doctor for leaving the girl Anne to die. He leaves at the next stop, knowing not where he is. The Doctor closes the door and leaves him there.

The Doctor is alone, and it does bother him. He misses Susan, Vicki, Barbara and Ian. The Doctor considers going home, but can’t.

A girl bursts in the open doors, looking for the telephone in a police box. The Doctor shoos her off, and Steven returns to warn the Doctor the police are coming.

The Doctor closes the doors and they dematerialize. Dorathea Chapman, Dodo for short, watches and laughs, happy to be on an adventure, and the Doctor is happy to have her. Zero companions avoided!
