Original air dates March – April of 1974.
We’re back on Peladon, a generation later. They’re mining some golden rock. The Federation wants it to fight the war. A man dies in strange circumstances and the superstitious miners attribute this to their god Agador, and refuse to use the new equipment.
The Doctor arrives on Peladon, sight-seeing. His appearance is observed.
The Queen gets the miners to a presentation on the new equipment and shows her support for it. The Doctor is believed to be an agent of Galaxy 5, sneaking around the tunnels. The demonstration goes badly, and one of the alien representatives is killed.
They are caught and taken to the Queen. They are accused of being spies and they are charged with spying and sacrelige. Alpha Centauri shows up and vouches for the Doctor.
The miners are skulking about planning something violent. One of the miners goes to talk to the queen. The others refuse to wait and skulky about attacking someone.
The Miners have Things to Say, and aren’t getting any traction. The Doctor tries to get the Queen to listen, but it’s an uphill battle. He’s got swords pointed at him again.
He and the Queen’s Champion – a big mute guy – go to investigate. The Miners cave in the cave. Agador appears and take the Champion away in a red glow.
Cave in too big. Doctor trapped. Miners try and get him out, use the Sonic Lance to do so. Doctor tries to talk sense to the miners, but soldiers apppear and a fight breaks out.
Sarah follows, lost in caves. Triggers a defense system, falls down.
Doctor tries to get the miners to not attack while he figures out who’s causing all these problems. They agree, until he leaves and then they reconsider fighting, now that they know how to open the armory door.
The Chancellor tries to turn the Queen against the Doctor – captured and executed – because of the timing of his arrival and the upheaval.
Sarah Jane Smith is “tried” and forced to admit her guilt. The Doctor interrupts and is also declared a rebel. Alpha Centauri goes to the Queen to get help, and is told that it’s a temple matter, and she can’t do anything. Alpha Centauri talks the Queen into changing things.
Doctor and Sarah are put down “The Pit” to meet “The Judgement Of Agador”. He roars and comes out of the shadows as the credits roll.
Doctor sings and hypnotizes Agador again.
Doctor gives the Queen a plan, and pisses off the Chancellor. Sarah is left with the Queen to espouse women’s lib. This will piss off the Chancellor even more.
The Chancellor refuses to listen to the Queen and confines the Doctor to the Citadel, making it impossible for him to do her bidding. He tries, and is sent to the dungeons. Sarah is ignored.
Things happen and I forgot to record them. Alpha Centauri calls for Federation troops.
Sarah gets the Doctor to listen that there’s something in the Refinery, and he goes to investigate that.
The Chancellor goes to the Miners and tells them they’ll get what they want after the federation troops have left. The miners agree and go back to work.
Agador attacks them again, just as the Doctor gets into the Refinery; to find an ice warrior and pesky credits.
The Ice Warriors declare martial law on this planet. The leader of the Ice Warriors takes a hard line and takes hostages to kill. The miners plan to destroy the Citadel unless they get what they want. The Ice Warrirors kill the rebel miners.
The Ice Warriors are going to get “cooperation” and go back to work. There are plans to fight the Ice Warriors by all the Peladonians.
One of the Peladonians isn’t satisfied with cooperation, and plans to use the sonic lance to destroy the citadel. Doctor stops him. Swordfight ensues. Rebel more or less wins, fires Sonic Lance, which explodes. The Doctor may be dead.
Or maybe not.
The Ice Warriors start to strong-arm Alpha Centauri for a more “Efficient” rule of the planet.
Alpha Centauri brings news of the enslavement of the Peladons. They try and escape, but the Queen is captured and Chancellor is killed.
The Engineer and Ice Warrirors are in on it together, and selling the mineral to Galaxy 5 – the Enemy. The Engineer has control of the apparition of Agador and keeps having it sppear and frighten people, and kill them.
Sarah goes to the Doctor’s last position and is the distraction they needed.
They get into the refinery area, and are trapped there. He used Agador against them, and the Ice Warriors are destroyed, the ones by the door anyway. Stand-off.
The Engineer uses the security system against the Doctor, who sends Sarah out, and ignores it. Agador blasts another ice warrior. The miners are encouraged and fight back.
The Doctor finally succumbs to the security system and passes out. Or dies, that’s unclear.
The Engineer is on the loose.
The Ice Warrior leader has the Queen as a hostage. The rebels kill the Ice Warriors in a skirmish.
Sarah goes to check on the Doctor, pretty sure he’s dead. Engineer still on the loose. He kidnaps the Queen as a hostage.
Doctor wakes up to Sarah’s tears. Thought he was dead. He was in a self-induced sensory depreviation coma, of course, so he could escape the alarm thing.
They use the live Agador to sniff out the Engineer and Queen, and in the end to maul the Engineer, who shoots Agador in the affray.
Doctor sets them up with a new chancellor – the lead Miner. The Miners find the TARDIS, and the Doctor goes.
