Story 071: Invasion of the Dinosaurs

Original air dates January through February of 1974. Six part serial. I’m watching this on a different computer and the wifi may be flaky. Episode 1 appears to be in black and white. Odd, the DVD menu samples aren’t.

Phones are out, and there appear to be no people around. Here’s a man breaking out of a building with a bag of loot.

The Doctor waits for a bus.

The bus never comes.

The police never answer.

The police station is closed and locked.

London is empty and no one will tell them why. It reminds me of the pandemic.

They find more looters.

They think all is normal till the pterodactyl attacks Sarah.

Brigadier is under stern orders to shoot the looters, while he’s more worried about the monsters.

Doctor and Sarah are arrested for looting, because of all the loot in their car. Brigadier sees the looting reports, gets them sprung, except he’s too slow and they’re to be sent to detention. They spring themselves, steal a UNIT jeep and get caught. Off to detention they go!

Their ride to detention is interrupted by a dinosaur. Credits roll.

Ep 2 is in color! Apparently I could have turned it on for ep1 but missed the option.

The car stops for the soldier to vainly fight the dinosaur – they get some results from grenades – and the Doctor and Sarah leg it.

They’re freeing themselves when they’re attacked by a man of Sir Richard’s in a garage, caught in a time eddy.

The Brigadier is the one who was searching, and they’re rescued.

Doctor goes to look at a dinosaur. They were going to catch it, but it fades away, back to where it came from.

Mad scientists playing with time are hiding in evacuated London. Mike Yates apparently rats on them. He gets a plan to nobble the Doctor’s dinosaur stunner.

They go to collect a brontosaur, but the stun gun does not work. The brontosaur fades away and is replaced by an angry tyrannosaur. The Brigadier orders his men to fire, and the Doctor fumbles with his useless stunner. The credits roll!

Mike Yates darts in and picks up the dropper stunner, removing his failure module, and zaps the monster!

It faints!

Mike goes back to the scientists and gets a new plan to foil the instruments so the time field can’t be traced.

Sarah finds a scientist called Whittaker and needs access to photograph things. General Finch, of all people, gives it to her. She comes back with a camera to take pictures. The flash wakes the t-rex. which wakes up grumpy. It breaks free of its chains trivially. They were cut through.

Sarah is left alone, and annoyed because no one will take her seriously. She goes to see the government man who the Doctor liked so much, and asks him. They find evidence and even a map to where the needed power generator might be. The government man turns on her.

She comes to in a spaceship having left Earth three months ago. End of ep3, and there I must stop for the night.

She still has a bump on her head.

Here’s the Whomobile, which is ridiculous, and dosen’t even have a nav system.

Sarah Jane Smith meets the Elders, who plan on guiding the development of a simple, pastoral people on New Earth.

Meanwhile, the Doctor, who hasn’t aged three months, is searching for the power usage. He winds up in the Underground, again, which is dark. He finds a hidden elevator by following some guy.

The scientist and his handler notice the lift running. They drop panels on the Doctor trapping him. The lift opens, and the Doctor gets in.

The scientist watches a monitor with a pterodactyl on it, which is then time-transferred to now, to attack the Doctor once he’s outside. The Doctor fights it off with a mop.

Sarah is ‘reeducated’ because of all the wild things she’s saying.

Doctor takes Brigadier to the lift, which is decomissioned. They go to the Minister who has a file that says the project was decomissioned.

The General, the Minister, Mike Yates, and Wihttaker, the scientist, are all conspiring to do something. I think it’s to time-travel the colonists off their “spaceships” onto a pristene Earth.

The Doctor is sent to meet Whittaker, and tricked into being where a monster is summoned, as the Gerneral and Brigadier burst in to “discover” him. He is arrested. Yates goes along with it and the Doctor realizes he’s the inside man. Sgt. Benton helps him escape.

Sarah fiddles with high tech stuff. She finds something, but tries to convince someone. They don’t listen, until she opens an airlock and traipses off.

Doctor is on the run. He loses his tail.

Sarah sneaks around the government hidey hole. She finds a lift out. Looks like the filing room at the Ministry.

UNIT chases the Doctor. The Doctor hides.

Sarah escapes to the real world. She heads to UNIT HQ and finds… nobody. General Finch is there and rather surprised to see her. She’s got Information and he won’t believe her. She might have convinced him if he weren’t in on it. He pulls a gun on her in the lift.

The time is nigh! Whittaker brings monsters in all over London to scare off any remaining people. One of those people is the Doctor, who’s trapped between two of them in a UNIT Jeep. Credits roll.

Last part! A T-Rex terrorizes the Doctor, who runs away. The brontasour is big and scary if less threatening. Maybe they’ll fight! Yes, it’s dino on dino action, with the Doctor watching. He flees in the confusion, but is caught between the Brigadier and the General.

Sarah won’t stay put and takes to the vents to escape.

Doctor is taken back to UNIT HQ. He finds Sarah’s note, and believes it. Yates shows up with a gun and interrupts the Brigadier calling to Geneva. There’s a kerfuffle and Yates is taken prisoner.

Brigadier goes off to raid the underground base. Sarah tries to spread the truth, and no one on the “ship”will believe her. She talks them into going out to find out why they’re been lied to and they break out into the control room.

Doctor arrives to stop this, and Brigadier with his reserve shows up too.

The scientist pulls the switch to rewind time, and it starts for a moment, but the Doctor stops it, and then reverses it, so when the scientist pulls it again he and the machine are thrown back into time.
