Original air dates April through May of 1973.
Picks up at the end of “Frontier in Space” with the wounded Doctor staggering into the TARDIS, and sending a telepathic message to the Time Lords. He falls, and falls asleep with the cryptic message that she must record anything that happens to the log. (Obviously another cassette tape.) She talks to it.
The TARDIS lands itself. Jo wants to get help. The scanner shows black and white vegetation, and gets gunk on it. Jo goes out anyway, into a thick green jungle, including big plants that spray the gunk on her coat. She notices the burn marks on it and leaves it behind. (Was this smart?)
Jo finds a spaceship. The Doctor rouses.
Two very Nordic spacemen find Jo; suspiciously. Never heard of Earth. It’s a myth. Three or four of “them” are coming, so the spacement run off, and leave Jo in a very wobbly set. With an apparently invisible man in it. Breathing and searching the ship for something. Pointed foodprints lead away.
Plants have coated the TARDIS in styrofoam blobs. They chop the Doctor out. He explains the TARDIS that he’s been to Skaro, and they don’t believe him. Jo’s being engulfed by the plant-virus-fungus-thingy. Also: Invisible Daleks. Credits.
Skulking about in forest. Daleks find Thal ship, plan on destroying it. Jo inside. Doctor tries to stop them, is captured. Ship destroyed.
When did the Doctor’s jacket turn purple? On the TARDIS, must have been. It was moss green last episode.
Jo wakes up to breathing and an invisible man tending to her fungal infection. The invisible man with the breahthy voice sounds rather like an Ice Warrior.
OMG seven daleks!
Another ship lands. Or crash-lands.
The invisible man talks to Jo.
Survivors from the crash-landed ship talk to the Thal captain – there’s 10,000 Daleks someplace on this planet! Pesky credits!
Jo plans on going in.
Doctor and Thal-guy (who’s name I lost) plan on going out.
The Thals plan on going in through the cooling system. They sure could use gloves and knitty hats.
Doctor and Thal are out. Jo’s in. Thals in the cooling are trapped, but get out in the nick of time in the lower levels with the Doctor and other Thal. One of the Thals is lost getting into a cold room where the others hide.
The Doctor builds a hot-air baloon to escape with. Jo gets out. The Doctor and Thals are not… credits roll!
The baloon works, and they rise upwards. Daleks send a force to meet them. They also use an anti-grav plate to lift a Dalek up the shaft. They get away in the nick of time and drop rocks on the ascending Dalek.
Daleks search for them, plan to destroy all life on the planet if they don’t find them.
They sneak to a place to weather the cold night. Everything else on the planet goes there too.
The Thals squabble.
The Doctor and the others figure out their plan is a problem and will wake the sleeping Dalek army.
They have to stop the Daleks releasing the bacteria, stop the Dalek army, and stop the Daleks. They find a pool of liquid ice stuff and plan to freeze the Daleks with it.
They get two Daleks to chase them and push them into the icy frozen stuff. Daleks are killed.
Dalek control decides to proceed immediately. Machine not ready to immunize, stalled release of bacteria.
Everyone sneaks inside, but gets caught. Problem with bacteria means they cannot release it without killing all the Dalesks. There is a chase.
They plan on bombing the Dalek army to trap them in place.
The Dalek Supreme arrives, orders everyone about.
The Daleks break in, but get bombed.
The Thals and the Doctor plan on blowing the wall and filling the chamber with ice. The bomb goes and fails to fill the chamber. Wait, it just takes time. They run like bunnies.
The base fills with ice. The Daleks abandon the base, and the Thals steal their ship to go home. Doctor and Jo head off in the TARDIS, course for Earth.
