Original air dates January and February 1972. I may have seen this one before.
Two men argue in front of a king. Peladon joining the Galactic Federation is the sore point, and some sort of curse.
The TARDIS arrives in a precarious spot. The Doctor and Jo get out and the TARDIS falls off the cliff. Off they go to get help, up the cliff.
The bug-like delegate from Alpha Centauri is worried about the death of the regent, and is reassured by the King that it’s not a worry.
The Doctor and Jo are presented to King Peladon as the delegate from Earth and Princess Josephne of TARDIS. There’s a load of mouthwash of only “men of substance and women of royal blood” may be in the Throne room, on penalty of death.
The young king has a thing for Jo.
On the way out, a giant statue is pushed on to the delegates. The Doctor sees it as credits roll.
The Doctor shoves them out of the way, and there is argument about the curse.
The Delegates retreat to the conference room to decide if they can stay on Peladon. The King really has a thing for Jo. Even Jo sees it!
The delegate from Arcturus is in a life support pod thing, and part of it goes missing. The Doctor saves him and Jo goes snooping looking for the missing circuits. She finds them in the Ice Warriors’ room. They are not amused.
The Ice Warriors report Jo had the missing Servo Junction box, and have captured her. She sneaks out, being sneaky like that. The guard takes the Doctor away. Jo runs in to the Peladon monster. Then the Ice Warriors.
The Ice Warriors think Jo did it and question her pointedly. The Doctor is led into the tunnels and finds a way to run from the monster. Secret passage puts him in the temple, which is verboten.
He’s scheduled for death, but is given the chance for a fight to the death instead. The high priest offers a way for him to escape to the TARDIS.
The Ice Warrior delegates want to talk to Jo. They voted to stay because the Doctor saved them earlier, and intend to return that favor.
Doctor is wandering around looking for something. He goes to the tunnels. He finds the big beastie, who roars a lot. Jo follows into the tunnels.
The plan, of course, is to kill the Doctor while he’s escaping.
The Doctor hypnotizes the monster, Jo interrupting.
They go back to the King, and are to be put to the fight anyway. There is a fight, the Doctor winning. As he spares the King’s Champion, Arcturus shoots at him. The Ice Warriors also shoot at someone. Credits roll, oops.
Arcturus was shot by the Ice Warriors, and the High Priest ran away. The High Priest is still on the loose and will be causing problems. Jo is sent to take over the conference while the Doctor prowls around after the King’s Champion.
Jo is surprised by the announcement of her forthcoming marriage to King Peladon.
The diplomats can’t reach their spaceships, their comms disabled.
High Priest starts his coup. King’s guard attacked, King captured.
Doctor finds the monster in the tunnels, bring him to the King, who’s under guard with all the delegates. The monster gets their attention then kills (with much roaring) the high priest.
The real Earth delegate shows up and Jo and the Doctor jump in the TARDIS and leave in a hurry, much to everyone’s surprise. Credits roll.
