Original air dates January 1972. Start of season 9. More fun with UNIT. I am watching the extended Special Edition with the remastered effects and new Dalek voices.
Time travelling guerillas are trying to kill a British diplomat, potentially to cause world war three. The Daleks are hunting everybody.
The Doctor and Jo are taken by time travelling soldiers and hide in the basement.
Jo, trying to escape, gets pulled through time to the Dalek city. The man there tells her the Doctor was in danger from the guerillas. She’s easily manipulated into giving him the data he needed to stage a larger attack.
The Doctor shoots an invading Ogron! It explodes into bits! How unlike the Doctor. He steals the Brigader’s Jeep without a word, which is rather like the Doctor. He drives off to the tunnel by the canal where all the action is, and finds a Dalek appearing. The credits roll!
Chased by Daleks, the Doctor finds the guerillas and gets a word before they are scattered by Ogrons. He climbs up out of the tunnels and finds himself in Dalek World. He does not like the look of it.
Doctor is captured. Tortured by Ogrons, investigated by another spy, and then “rescued” by the controller. The Doctor is not kind to the controller.
The prisoners have escaped, but everyone is tracking them to recapture them. They want the Doctor alive so they can brainscan him. He steals an ATV and leads the Ogrons on a merry chase.
The guerillas plan to rescue the Doctor. The Daleks mind-scan him and find he is the Doctor. They are gleefully telling him he will be exterminated while the credits roll.
The Controller wants The Doctor given to him so he can interrogate him about the geurillas. It does not go well until the gureillas break in and free Jo and the Doctor, when it goes worse.
The Doctor figures out that the wars that let the Daleks take over were triggerd by the guerillas missing man bombing the house.
The Doctor and Jo, on the way back to the 20th century, are captured by the Controller, who lets them go change history back to the unbombed version. The Daleks will not be best pleased with him. He’s watched, and reporetd to and killed.
The Diplomats arrive at the quiet house. So does the Doctor, driving up in a UNIT jeep. The Daleks show up to kill off the peace conference themselves if the bomb doesn’t do it.
UNIT vs Daleks, UNIT not doing very well. Ray guns are more effective than what UNIT has, except for high explosives. A big fight scene!
The Diplomats are evacuated. UNIT falls back to allow the Daleks to take the house, which will be bombed. When the house explodes the Diplomats finally believe the alien threat and work towards peace. Credits roll.
This was an expanded espisode, and the work done by the new crew was excellent. I could not tell new from old and they fit seamlessly.
