Original air dates April and May of 1971. Will not say it extended like, “Piiiiigs iiiiinnnnn Spaaaaaaaceeeeee!” even though that’s what I keep thinking. Somehow I skipped the first episode and saw them out of order. Whups.
Time Lords discuss the doomsday weapon being missing, and the Master knowing about it. Time Lords will use the Doctor to solve the problem. The Doctor is working on his dematerilization circuit. He shows Jo inside the TARDIS (finally). “It’s bigger inside than out!”
The Time Lords start the TARDIS from remote and send them to a planet called Xarius, which is being surveyed by a mining company.
Jo is not excited, but also wants to go home. The Doctor sort of steamrolls her into exploring.
Aliens check out the TARDIS. Queue thoughts of apes at the monolith.
The Doctor is taken back to the colony and they react badly to him, as they think he’s from the mining company to strip mine the planet. He figures out they’re short on crops and food will be a problem quickly. They’re from 2471.
The aliens steal the TARDIS.
The men and the Doctor reply to a radio call for help. Two dead colonists and attacked by large lizardy things. The Doctor finds holes in the story of monsters.
A man is found staggering in from another Colony on the planet. Wiped out by giant lizards from nowhere.
They go back to the damaged dome and the Doctor pokes around, meets the local aliens, who are mostly harmless. A robot comes in and nearly pins him down before the credits roll.
The Doctor is examining a dome building that’s been trashed. A robot comes in and nearly pins him down. Interplanetary Mining Corporation (IMC) will be unhappy to learn there are colonists. Colonists have been killed. There are lizardmen and primitives who attack them, and they can’t grow food.
The IMC plans on driving the colonists out so they can mine. They plan on killing the meddling Doctor.
Oh, and the TARDIS has gone missing. Already.
Three aliens show up and the Doctor fights them off with their own weapons.
A rescued colonist from another colony dome kills a friendly alien and gets the friendly alien held responsible. He doesn’t trust the aliens.
One of the mining guys is sent to kill the Doctor, using a robot with fake claws. The Doctor interrupts this plan, and escapes.
The IMC folks land a ship by the main dome and makes a plan to go “make friends” which he fails miserably at.
The power plant is broken and the Doctor goes off to fix it. Norton – the lost man from another colony – is an IMC plant.
Jo and her co-conspirator plan on trying to escape. They do for a minute, but Jo is recaptured. Her co-conspirator runs off, and looks captured but an IMC man frees him.
The Doctor goes to talk to the IMC man. The Doctor goes to try and get Jo back and to stop the attack tomorrow. On the way back to the ship, the green aliens attack IMC and take Jo.
The colonists take the IMC ship, and discover Jo’s lost. The aliens bring Jo to a hidden door and inside. The door closes ominously and credits roll.
The colonists lose the IMC ship.
The Doctor finds the door, goes in.
The Adjudicator appears – it is the Master.
Jo and the Doctor are to be sacrificed, I think.
The Doctor talks his way out of it to a muppety thing.
The Doctor shows up and finds the Master who cows him pretty good. The settlers are thrown off. They refuse to take this judgement, and are planning another attack.
As the trap is spring, the Master pulls Jo and the Doctor aside, with the plan of killing them.
The colonists take the IMC again. The Master wants to investigate the primitive city. The Master has the colonists eating out of his hand.
The IMC gets thrown off the planet, and objects to it.
The Doctor and Jo go to the Master’s TARDIS and don’t just steal it. They look for evidence.
A spaceship with a teletype, which can send pictures! Faaancy!
The Doctor and Jo search the Master’s files. They find Things. The Master notices them and gasses them.
The colonists tell the Master the Doctor has the information he wants, and the Master runs off to rescue the Doctor from his TARDIS.
IMC retakes the colony through stealth and training.
I lost track, and Jo winds up being put on the (doomed!) ship with the colonists. Master and Doctor are captured in the primitive city to be sacrificed.
The colonists’ ship launches, gets off the pad, and explodes.
Jo and the IMC guy who’s not all bad get into the primitive city.
The Master offers to cut the Doctor in to his master plan to universal domination. The Doctor refuses.
The muppety guy appears, chides the Master, steals his weapon, and has the Doctor destroy their megaweapon. The city starts to go splodey and they run for it.
IMC has them up against the wall to be killed when the colonists attack. From somewhere.
The Doctor goes back to the base, where the TARDIS has turned up in a stash the aliens had stolen. He and Jo head right back to the minute they left. It’s a minor miracle. The Brigadier, still lecturing, does not understand.
