Original air dates April through June 1968. Starts off with a goodbye to Victoria, which is what I get for watching them out of order. The Doctor and Jaimie find a new planet to land on. Most of this serial is slide shows, including the first one.
The TARDIS blows a gasket and they vent it to space. They wind up in a rocket, and look around. Walking noises and sneaking about. They find living quarters. They find a control room. They have yet to find crew, of which they expect four.
The Doctor finds what would I would call a food replicator, which makes them both the food they wanted. Jaimie has a nap.
They need mercury to fix the TARDIS or it’ll only be as big as a phone box. They look on the ship. A robot comes out of someplace fuzzy and does something incomprehensible. There are futuristic sounds and lights.
The rocket starts to move. Things are thrown about. Doctor hits his head. They can’t get back to the TARDIS, doors are locked. They get back, and manage to get in, I think. The Doctor is dazed.
Something controlly happens in the control room, I think.
Beeping, and a robot moves around. More science fictiony noises.
People on Base 3 find the rocket, and start to deal with it. It’s lost, and supposed to be at a far distant station. They can raise no one onboard and are worried about the rocket’s course changing due to failing automatic systems and targeting the base. They plan on destroying it. Credits roll.
The show opens with them preparing to destroy the rocket. There are objections, but they’re overruled.
Jaimie and the Doctor are not in the TARDIS and very much alive and unaware of the looming threat.
Something goes wrong on Base 3, but it’s unclear what. They blame the rocket. They get a signal on the static that’s getting them confused. Coming from the rocket. They’ll have to send two men to look at what’s going on over there. Before they blow it up.
Stills of Jaimie standing there, and men in spacesuits. Whirring noises. Weird readings on station scanner, which worries them more. They bring Jaimie and the Doctor to the station and go to medical.
This doctor is suddenly known as “Doctor John Smith”.
They interview Jaimie and he evades. Zoe is going to show Jaimie around to observe Jaimie. Jaimie finds the place and meets Zoe, who’s name I’m too lazy to put umlauts in. She’s a librarian and/or researcher and quite smart. She laughs at his kilt. She shows him around and introduces him to people.
The leader of Base 3 isn’t coping well. Wants routine, no mysteries. Knows how to handle emergencies, but mysteries are a mess. The Base Doctor gives her report; Jaimie’s lying, reluctantly. Has had no space training, and hasn’t been in space long.
They still plan on blowing up the rocket. Jaimie isn’t happy about this, as the TARDIS is aboard. Crew conspires but doesn’t know what the trouble is. Something with the rocket out there, something … sinister.
Things happen. Balls move. Lights flash. There’s a man? inside a ball, who breaks out. Credits roll.
Video! We have video for part 3. Same sequence as before credits. Not men in the balls – Cybermen.
Jaimie sabatoges the laser, gets caught, starts a big kerfuffle.
A lone engineer in the power room finds a cybermat, thinks it is cute, hides it.
The Cybermen are plotting something.
The Cybermats have destroyed the bernalium rods the laser uses. They have then killed a crewmember. The laser is down.
The Doctor figures out the Cybermat and that there must be Cybermen aboard the rocket.
Two men arrive at The Wheel to be accosted by Cybermen. They take over the men with some brain ray. Credits roll, and we’re back to a slideshow.
Doctor explains Cybermen to the controller of The Wheel, who isn’t having it.
Bringing in a crate of Bernalium from the rocket – with the Cybermen. Survey Party comes in with them.
Doctor thinks Bernalium was destroyed for other reasons, but doesn’t know what.
They work on restoring the laser. The rods from the ship fit the laser, and the laser should be up in time to stop the meteorite storm.
The Cybermen zap another crewmember. They want the station protected from the meteorites, too.
The Doctor and crew aboard the station track down the Cybermen’s mind control. The man is lost and the Doctor and Jaimie are off looking for Cybermen on the Wheel.
The Cybermen are doing … something … when the credits roll.
One more slide deck, but episode 6 is video.
All the floors in the station appear to be wooden. Many clomping footsteps.
Cybermats corner the Doctor and Jaimie, but they get the station to fend them off from the control room. The Cybermen notice and report this to their leader. Leader is concerned about xray laser working.
Cybermen are taking over parts of the ship. Fighting noises.
Lava lamps as high tech backgrounds.
The Cybermen are aware the Doctor is present and want him destroyed.
Ooo, a spaceship and everything! Models, but neat. And then exploded! Fancy!
Cybermen blown out into space, and the ship blown up. Cleanup follows.
Jaimie and Zoe say goodbye, but she wants to know more.
The Doctor tops off their Mercury and all is fixed. Except Zoe tries to stow away and gets caught. The Doctor shows Zoe some fun with Daleks.
