Original air date March and April of 1965. Arriving outside Jaffa during the Crusades, they are immediately beset by troubles.
A missing episode or two, reconstructed from photos of the broadcast. Not bad, but not as nice to watch as the real thing.
Some of these costumes wouldn’t fly today; Saladin is an Englishman with heavy makeup and looks terrible. The moths from the last episode were better. Despite that I liked Saladin’s acting and thought he did a good job, even if he looked greasy.
Poor Barbara, kidnapped again. Have they never seen any English women? Particularly tall good-looking ones?
Ian is off as a messenger, knighted by King Richard. Neat.
This is certainly a weedy King Richard compared to the one from the Errol Flynn Robin Hood as he came back from this same Crusade.
